New Bike!

I've been wanting to get a new bike for a few years (probably ever since someone didn't properly lock up my bike in college), but didn't see it as necessary enough to put money into. So when I received a stipend for participating in some environmental education research last week, I **update** Sam and I thought putting it towards a new bike would be perfect.

I went for a long bike ride today (mainly because my calf is sore so I'm avoiding running), and I must say that I think I like the new bike.

You thought it would be perfect to put towards a new bike? I suppose your spouse had nothing to do with it.

Fenders? Since when do bikes come with fenders? I remember fenders on bikes, but then I was born in the 40s.

Very cool. Fenders cut down on racing stripes. Last week I had grit all over my legs.

Bring your bikes to Bay City for a ride with us! Love, Mom

Fenders are cool again (Gas for $3.50 a gallon helps out with that). It's all cyclical (or maybe bicyclical?).

Oh...unfortunately the sweet ring lock I got for Christmas doesn't work on this bike...it's tires are too wide. I was kinda bummed. :-(

I guess I'll have to get a Japanese grocery-getter bike next time around....

Hey! I'm being maligned! It was just a really, really cheap lock...

Anyway, congrats on the new bike; looks cool. Is gas seriously $3.50 a gallon now??? That's like here... except we hardly drive! How wide does the ring lock have to be? I'll check and see if there's a bigger one and we can swap.

Since Mike and I have decided that we're going to be a one-car family (in exurbia, should be interesting) for at least a year after we get back, I've been thinking that I should've gotten a grocery-getter here a long time ago...maybe it's not too late!

Gas isn't quite $3.50 yet...only $3.39 as of last check. Though they say any disturbance to offshore refineries by a hurricane could send prices way up.

My bike tires are 2.0" wide, but I'm not sure if a ring lock will work right on the bike. The japanese bikes have the lock around the fender, which is welded to the frame, so the frame and tire are firmly connected when it's locked. My bike doesn't have a connected fender, so even if I could put the lock on, it would be possible to remove the tire with the lock without too much difficulty.

Tell you what, you get yourself a Japanese grocery getter and I'll donate the ring lock! :-)
