Down, Down, Down

The path down Fuji is different than the path up. The path is almost like black sand and by down I mean a straight line down the mountain. It's similar to walking down a sand dune for 4 hours. This picture is looking back up the path down. I'm not sure you can get sense of the steepness from the picture. If you click on the picture to get the larger version, I believe you can see a very small Mike & Meika (wearing a light yellow jacket) sitting on the left of the picture.

This is a sign at a station on the descending path. We figured we maxed out our climb at roughly 3000 meters, so at this point we had descended 700 meters, and had another 300 or so to go.

This is the view of Mt. Fuji from our hotel room when we got back. Compare it to the first picture of Fuji from the hotel room. As you can see it's a little obscured. I guess we should feel blessed that we had one day of clear skies and an excellent view. It would've been really disappointing to have never actually seen the mountain... Posted by Picasa
